Three decades after he was crushed by her in an ideological battle, mining union leader Arthur Scargill outlived Margaret Thatcher. When a friend text messaged to tell him of Thatcher’s death, Scargill simply replied, “SCARGILL ALIVE!”. This affirmation in the face of years of personal obscurity and the marginalization of the working class as a factor in history was the moment of inspiration for this suite of works.

Pondering the legacy of British unionism’s last gasp in this present moment, Fugitive Moments has created a suite of works across a number of mediums to navigate the emotive, poetic and iconographic ashes of Scargill’s defeat.
